Award-winning actress Jessica Walter, beloved for her role in “Arrested Development,” has sadly passed away. As reported by Deadline, Walter died in her sleep at her home in New York City on March 24, at the age of 80.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom, Jessica,” shared her daughter, Brooke Bowman, senior vice president of Drama Programming at Fox Entertainment. Walter is also survived by her grandson, Micah Heymann.
“A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on screen and off,” Bowman continued. “While her legacy will endure through her impressive body of work, she will also be remembered for her sharp wit, elegance, and exuberant spirit.”

Walter’s remarkable career included numerous notable performances. In addition to voicing Malory Archer in the animated series “Archer,” she is perhaps best recognized as Lucille Bluth in “Arrested Development”—a role that garnered her an Emmy nomination in 2015 for Outstanding Supporting Actress, along with two nominations from the Screen Actors Guild.
“She’s engaged, she’s aware of everything that’s going on. She always wants to know what you’re doing,” said Alia Shawkat, Walter’s co-star in “Arrested Development,” in a 2019 interview. “I think it’s a mentality that comes from an older era of Hollywood.
