10 Things I’m Grateful to Call My Wife Bonuses

Hey there! So, I recently stumbled upon a rather amusing article that got me thinking about what I really appreciate in my life as a stay-at-home mom. You might have seen the buzz about a piece in The New York Post where a woman shares her “Wife Bonus” for staying at home with her child, allowing her to splurge on high-end items. While that might seem a bit outrageous to some, it got me reflecting on my own version of wife bonuses—those little (and not-so-little) things that make my life special, even if they don’t come with a designer label. Here’s my take on my wife bonuses:

  1. Clean Water: Seriously, it’s like magic! Fresh water flows straight from my tap. My kids may only remember to ask for it at midnight, but it’s always there when we need it.
  2. A Secure Home: Having a roof over our heads is a blessing, especially during those crazy rainstorms or the long winter months we often endure. My husband, bless his heart, works hard to provide this for us.
  3. Unnecessary Treats from Target: Oh, the thrill of snatching up a $15 shirt that I definitely don’t need! It’s like a burst of joy, especially when it’s a questionable fashion choice that screams “youthful exuberance.”
  4. Shoes on My Feet: Yes, I have actual shoes! And while they might not be designer, I worked hard (in my own way) to earn that privilege—cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and bringing two little humans into the world.
  5. Access to Healthcare: If my kids are sick, I can see a doctor the same day and get the medicine they need. That’s priceless, and I’m grateful for the ability to afford it.
  6. Balanced Kids: I may joke about how my self-esteem is tied to my appearance (who doesn’t love a good hair color?), but I’m thrilled that my kids know true beauty comes from within.
  7. The Joy of Staying Home: I get to choose to be at home with my kids, even if it sometimes feels more like a challenge than a luxury. But let’s be honest—being there for them is a gift I truly cherish.
  8. Making Choices: I’m the captain of this ship, deciding everything from meals to wardrobe choices. My Google search history could probably tell a few tales, but I try to keep the power in check!
  9. Dressing My Kids in Style: I love finding awesome clothes at consignment shops. They may not care about brands, but they sure do love twirling in colorful outfits.
  10. The Ultimate Wife Bonus: While some might say it’s a designer handbag, I’d argue that my biggest bonus is teaching my kids that material things don’t define us. Knowing they don’t need to chase after the latest trends is a win.

Life can be tough, so why complicate it by stressing over stuff? Embracing the little joys can make all the difference.
