10 Perks of Parenting Teen Boys

Gone are the days when I was chasing my three little rascals around the park or wiping their sticky fingers and adorable little behinds. Now that two of my boys are teenagers, my home is still buzzing with energy, noise, and a fair bit of teenage testosterone. I sometimes find myself missing the days when I could scoop them up and plant kisses on their chubby cheeks. However, I’ve come to realize that having teenage boys comes with some surprising perks that I never expected when they were younger.

  1. No More Shower Battles
Teenage boys want to look and smell good for their crushes, so I no longer have to nag them about showering. It’s a relief not to have those daily battles anymore!
  2. Language Freedom
As a mom who sometimes lets the occasional swear word slip, it’s great that my teens don’t bat an eye. Instead of scolding me, they just give me a fist bump.
  3. Simple Wardrobe
I don’t have to break the bank on trendy clothes. A few comfy outfits are all they need. T-shirts and shorts are basically their uniform, and when it gets chilly, jeans or sweatpants do the trick.
  4. Avoiding Awkward Talks
I get to hand off the cringe-worthy conversations about puberty and shaving to their dad. Sorry, not my area of expertise!
  5. Hugs are Always Welcome
Even though they might roll their eyes sometimes, my boys never outgrow the desire to hug their mom. It’s a special bond that stays strong.
  6. Silence is Golden
If I’m not in the mood to chat, that’s perfectly fine. Teenage boys are pretty low-key communicators, so a few grunts and short responses will do. They won’t even notice my silence.
  7. Built-in Help
With their newfound strength and height, my teenage boys are always ready to lend a hand. Need something from the top shelf or help moving furniture? They’re eager to show off those muscles!
  8. Bathroom Privacy
Nothing makes a teenage boy flee faster than the sight of his mom in the shower. I can enjoy my time in the bathroom without interruptions—no more little ones barging in!
  9. Reading Their Emotions
I can easily tell when one of my boys is feeling off. They may put on a brave face around friends, but at home, they’re as transparent as air.
  10. Easy Meal Time
Teenage boys are always hungry, and they don’t care if it’s a gourmet meal or a frozen dinner. As long as there’s food coming their way, they’re satisfied. Carbs reign supreme, and they’re not picky about how they get them.

As of now, I’m loving the journey of being a mom to teenage boys. However, with my oldest gearing up to learn how to drive soon, I might need a little extra support—maybe some Valium! That’s one milestone I’m not ready for just yet. For more insights on parenting and family life, check out this other blog post on home insemination at Intracervical Insemination.
