Three Ways to Enjoy Netflix
Hey there, fellow binge-watcher! Isn’t it amazing how we live in this golden age of TV? With just a swipe, we can access almost any show we desire. It’s a great time to be alive, and I’m learning new ways to make the most of it every day.
1. Binge-Watching
You know the drill: binge-watching is when you dive headfirst into multiple episodes of a show, sometimes even consuming an entire season in one sitting. It’s perfect for discovering a new series, revisiting a beloved classic, or catching up on a show you just stumbled upon. I’ve binge-watched everything from Gilmore Girls and Parenthood to Downton Abbey and Twin Peaks. There are some shows I’ve revisited countless times. Just wish I’d tackled Lost in a similar fashion, but honestly, I’m not sure I can handle that rollercoaster again!
2. Purge-Watching
This concept is relatively new to me! I first heard the term from an article comparing it to being “pot-committed” in poker. It’s when you feel compelled to keep watching a show even if it’s not great, just because you’ve already invested so much time. For example, I found myself purge-watching Star Trek: Enterprise, which was a tough slog. I was ecstatic when it was finally canceled. More recently, I tried to give The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt a fair shake. I adore Tina Fey and thought it would be a blast. Sadly, it turned out to feel more like a drawn-out SNL sketch than a solid show. By the end, I was just watching to say I stuck it out. Ugh.
3. Hate-Watching
I didn’t even know this had a name until recently, even though I’ve been doing it for ages! I hate-watched The Newsroom for a while, but it eventually just became too much for me. Despite some clever writing, the relentless sexism and over-the-top dialogues drove me to stop. But there’s one show I can’t quit: America’s Next Top Model. I started watching it for the laughs—who can resist models dealing with bird poop and crying over creepy crawlers? Over time, I found myself captivated by Tyra’s outrageous behavior and the antics of the girls who thought being on TV made them role models. I can’t stand them, yet I can’t look away. Even though they’ve axed my favorite judges and brought in new, less entertaining ones, I’m still glued to the screen.
I think there’s room in our lives for every kind of viewing experience. Whether you’re into binge-watching, purge-watching, or even hate-watching, there’s a little something for everyone.

In summary, we’ve got a world of viewing options at our fingertips. From binge-watching that new series you’ve been eyeing to the curious realms of purge-watching and even hate-watching, there’s no shortage of entertainment to explore.
