Charlotte: Why It Suddenly Sucks to Be Mom

Charlotte: Why It Suddenly Sucks to Be Momhome insemination Kit

You know that feeling when you think you’ve found the perfect name for your baby? For months, my partner and I tossed around ideas for our little girl. We were totally in love with the name Olivia, but it was way too common for our taste. So, we toyed with Avery and Caroline, but finally landed on Charlotte because, at the time, we didn’t know anyone else with that name. Apparently, I must be living under a rock because that quickly changed.

A few weeks ago, I went to a Baptism class, and guess what? The woman behind me had a daughter named Charlotte too. Then, during the actual baptism, there was another Charlotte sitting right next to us. And just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, the Royals had to go and name their baby Charlotte! WHY, right?!

I mean, anyone else in the world could name their daughter Charlotte, and I’d be like, “Nice choice!” But the Princess of basically the entire planet? Seriously, is it too late for me to change my child’s name? Now, she’s destined to be one of a million “Charlottes” in her class.

I’m actually considering it. It doesn’t sound too tough, except for the fact that I’d have to explain to everyone why we renamed her at six months. Our friends and family would definitely think I’ve lost it. Plus, we’ve got a ton of stuff with her name on it! Maybe I could send all the cute monogrammed items to Kate and William and hope they send me a thank you note with some donuts, like they did for those lucky folks outside the hospital. That would be so cool.

Of course, I don’t know the Royals personally (though I’m convinced Kate and I would totally hit it off), so it’s not like they’re stealing my idea or anything. Still, for the next several years, Charlotte will be the most popular girls’ name, and that’s just a bummer.

To my Charlotte: I’m really sorry we fell short on the name game. I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last thing I mess up in your first eighteen years, so you might want to get used to it. For now, I’ll just have to come up with a cute nickname for you.
