The 5 Simple Words I Want to Share with My Mom
As Mother’s Day rolls around, we’re bombarded with a flood of messages celebrating moms everywhere. From heartfelt and humorous cards to blogs expressing the joys and struggles of motherhood, it feels like there’s no shortage of words dedicated to this special role. Yet sometimes, the most impactful sentiments can be distilled into just a few simple phrases. This year, I want to share five important words with my mom: Thank you, and I’m sorry.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For the incredibly tough labor and delivery you went through to bring me into this world.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For all those nights you held me close, rocked me to sleep, and rubbed my back because I was what they call a “challenging” baby.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For putting up with my endless tantrums and overwhelming demands as I navigated through childhood as a “difficult” kid.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For coming to my rescue during my first year of school, wiping my tears even while juggling a newborn and a toddler at home.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For handling every sibling squabble with incredible patience and grace.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For enduring countless trips to the grocery store with three whiny kids, all begging for sugary snacks.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For those years of sleep deprivation you faced, from pregnancy woes to late-night feedings and teenage curfews.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For dedicating your weekends to watch me at the pool, sweating it out for 12 long years.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For opening your home to all my friends, making our place the go-to hangout spot.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For caring for me when I was sick, especially that one time on the snorkeling trip that was just plain embarrassing.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For navigating my teenage drama over friends, crushes, and everything else that comes with those years.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For putting your dreams on hold to help make mine come true.
Thank you, and I’m sorry. For waiting all this time to hear me finally say how much I love you, admire you, and appreciate everything you’ve done for me.
Thank you. And I’m sorry.
