Super Dad Crafts ‘Big Hero 6’ Chem-Ball Purse for His Daughter
Remember Honey Lemon? She’s that brilliant engineering student and chemistry whiz from Big Hero 6, who used her magical Power Purse to whip up all sorts of chemical concoctions for her superhero adventures. Well, one dad, named Mike, decided his daughter needed her own version of that iconic purse.
While his little girl already had the Honey Lemon costume, she was missing the essential accessory that made the character so cool. So, Mike, being the awesome dad who loves Comic-Con, took on the challenge of creating the purse himself. With no prior experience in purse-making, he spent about 10 hours watching YouTube tutorials to learn how to tackle the project, followed by another 30 hours crafting the purse itself.
The initial planning was the toughest part for Mike; however, once he got started, he found it wasn’t as overwhelming as he had feared. “Foam is cheap and forgiving,” he shared. By the end, he had crafted a purse that lit up, featured a periodic table, and had a special compartment for the chem-balls, which were held in place with a magnet until his daughter needed them.
When they finally arrived at Comic-Con, the duo found their vibe. People instantly recognized his daughter as Honey Lemon, and many approached her for photos. It was a heartwarming sight—one delighted child, a proud dad, and a toy industry that often overlooks girls unless they fit the mold of popular princess characters like Elsa and Anna from Frozen. While it’s great that action figures for all characters from Big Hero 6, including Honey Lemon, exist, there’s still a significant gap in action figures and costumes aimed at girls.
This issue has been highlighted repeatedly, from the absence of a Black Widow action figure to Colin Hanks voicing his desire for a female Star Wars toy that isn’t just “slave Princess Leia” in a bikini. Perhaps Colin should reach out to Mike for tips, although Mike is already gearing up for next year’s Comic-Con, where his daughter wants to dress as Go Go Tomago.
