My 7-year-old son is a proud nerd, and while nerd culture is pretty trendy right now, I bet he’d still embrace his inner geek even in a less accepting era. Here are 11 delightful signs of his nerdiness:
- He’s quick to correct anyone who mistakenly calls the creature “Frankenstein.” “Frankenstein is the doctor! The green dude with the bolts is Frankenstein’s monster!”
- When chatting with a friend’s dad, he said, “I’m not great at sports, except for archery.”
- His wardrobe consists solely of comic book character T-shirts, which he often styles with a tie and a Newsies hat.
- Despite being on the smaller side, he proudly claims he’s the only hobbit in his class.
- “If they ever make an Aquaman movie, it had better be done right,” he declared with conviction.
- He named the neighborhood stray cat “Crookshanks,” inspired by Hermione’s feline from Harry Potter.
- The only time I’ve seen him genuinely sad while watching TV was when his favorite contestant on The Quest—a reality show inspired by The Lord of the Rings—lost. He got teary-eyed and insisted, “I’m not crying!” Classic nerd.
- He even penned a rap that cleverly rhymes “Pekingese” with “allergies.”
- After re-watching Young Frankenstein (remember, it’s “Frankenstein” for the doc!), he raised his hand in class, just like Inspector Kemp. He thought no one noticed, but it was a comedic victory in my book.
- He performed impressions at his school’s talent show, nailing Captain Kirk and the local weatherman with uncanny accuracy.
- We just wrapped up sketching designs for his Riddler Halloween costume—and it’s only June!

In summary, my son’s nerdy quirks are a constant reminder of how wonderfully unique he is. From his comic book fashion sense to his impressive knowledge of pop culture, it’s clear he’s living his best nerd life. Embracing his passions only makes him more special, and I can’t wait to see what he’ll come up with next.
