I Absolutely Adore McDonald’s, and I’m Not Ashamed of It

You can catch me at McDonald’s pretty much any day of the week, happily sipping a large Diet Coke. Honestly, I look forward to it like most people look forward to their morning coffee – or, you know, some other exciting stuff. It’s a daily highlight for me. That fizzy drink gives me the refreshing jolt I need to kickstart my day. The moment those bubbles hit the back of my throat, it’s pure joy. There’s a reason their soda tastes so incredible! It’s all about that perfect temperature and the ideal syrup-to-water ratio. I could easily finish my cup and immediately want more. I’m definitely not alone in this; McDonald’s seems to have nailed the art of soda-making. Even their straws are top-notch!

I’m not ashamed to admit it: I absolutely love McDonald’s, and I don’t care who knows it. Sure, admitting to enjoying fast food isn’t exactly trendy; it’s much more acceptable to talk about shopping at organic markets after a yoga class (which, yes, I do as well). But I’m just being real here. My family and I usually eat healthy, but those days when we indulge in fast food? They’re a blast!

I mean, come on—how great is it to grab a soda (any size, but let’s face it, it’s always large) for just a buck? Taking my kids through the drive-thru on a hectic evening is like magic; they’re more thrilled than when I spend hours cooking a hot meal that they don’t even want to finish! Walking into McDonald’s is like stepping into heaven, especially with the aroma of those hot, salty fries wafting through the air.

And let me tell you, I cherish my alone time in the car, digging into that brown paper bag and munching on fries—okay, maybe it’s more like five fries at a time. It’s like a $6 date with myself, and I’m totally here for it! Once, I even brought my bag of fried goodies to a nail salon, and the receptionist got so excited by the smell that she dashed out to get her own McDonald’s meal. We clinked our Diet Coke cups together and it was a moment to remember!

Growing up in the ’80s, before the whole mom-shaming nonsense took over, my mom would treat us to McDonald’s a couple of times a month. Those were special days! We’d walk in on hot summer afternoons after the beach, enjoying the cool air and the smell of fries. My sisters and I would eagerly pick out our Happy Meal toys. One summer, they even had those cool pink and blue buckets for the Happy Meals. We used them for years to build sandcastles!

When that monthly PMS hits, you can bet I’m walking straight in for a large fries and a chocolate shake. The folks behind the counter know me so well they even toss in extra cherries with my shake. That’s what I call customer service! Yes, I understand what’s in their food, and I know it’s not organic. But I can’t help but love this place. No other restaurant can serve up fries and sodas like McDonald’s does.

And for some reason, whenever I’ve battled a cold, a Quarter Pounder is just what I crave. It transforms me from feeling weak to feeling like I can conquer the world. I relish every bite and lick my fingers clean without a hint of guilt. You might judge me for loving fast food or for letting my kids enjoy it too, but I refuse to give up my McDonald’s habit. Because who can resist Diet Coke, fries, and shakes with cherries on top?

Some days call for a fancy organic salad, and some days just need a hefty serving of deep-fried goodness. You know, with a Diet Coke, of course.

In summary, I unabashedly love McDonald’s and find joy in those crispy fries and refreshing sodas, despite knowing the nutritional facts. Sometimes, you just need to indulge!
