Why I Adore My Swimdress
I absolutely love my swimdress. Now, I know I’m supposed to feel otherwise, right? Social media is always buzzing with the message that I should be flaunting a bikini at the beach, no matter my size or age. They say all women are beautiful and should never feel ashamed of their bodies.
But honestly, I’m not ashamed at all. Sure, I sometimes wish I were a little slimmer or that my belly was flatter, but at this stage in my life, I’m relishing my food and enjoying life as it is. Even when I was younger and slimmer, bikinis never felt like me. I’ve just never been comfortable in them.
Right now, I’m soaking up the sun on a stunning beach in Spain, where it seems like most women are rocking bikinis—some even go topless! And you know what? I think they all look amazing. There’s a beautiful variety of shapes and sizes, and I admire their confidence. No judgment here; just a celebration of women who aren’t fixated on every little curve or wrinkle.
Yet, every time I scroll through my Facebook feed, I see articles urging me to embrace my body and ditch the swimdress for a bikini. They’re telling me to strut my stuff and stop worrying about how I look. But here’s the thing: I want to feel good while I’m out there. That’s why I chose to wear a swimdress for this vacation. It’s black, has a fun skirt, and a flattering neckline. When I put it on, it feels like I’m wearing a chic cocktail dress. I feel feminine, sexy, and cute—something that can be pretty elusive!
Today, as I enjoyed the waves, I spotted another woman in a swimdress for the first time since we arrived. She was having a blast with her partner, just like I was with my husband and kids. I didn’t feel out of place or judged at all; everyone was too busy enjoying themselves, and let’s be real, who’s paying attention to swimwear styles when there are naked beach bodies around?
I adore my swimdress because it enhances my figure, which still has that hourglass shape, and it’s the comfiest thing I could wear while splashing in the water. I never have to fidget with it or worry about how I look. I’m a modest person by nature, and while I appreciate a bit of cleavage, that’s about my limit. My confidence comes from wearing clothes that make me feel great. I know my body well, and I feel stylish and classy in my swimdress. It’s not outdated; it’s retro-chic.
When I slip into it, I can see the admiration in my husband, Jake’s eyes. He pulls me in for a kiss and tells me he notices my slight sunburn on my chest with a cute grin.
You know what? I’m done caring about what the Internet suggests. My swimdress is the one suit that helps me forget my self-consciousness rather than amplify it. I love how I feel in it! I can run to the ocean, play in the waves, then lounge under a beach canopy with my drink and a good book, just like everyone else here.
So, dear Internet, while you think a bikini is what I need, you’re mistaken. My fabulous swimdress is what makes me feel like a million bucks. I’m not hiding; I’m proud of my choice!
