Stop Worrying: Your Grown Son Won’t Poop His Pants (And Other Concerns to Ditch)
As a mom of two little ones, I find myself fretting about whether they’ll ever grow up. I also stress about whether I’m messing them up, but that’s a whole other topic! With the constant barrage of social media, celebrity parenting tips, and other parents at the park, I often feel like my kids are falling behind. They should be doing more, saying more, eating a wider variety of foods, and so on. But guess what? I’ve decided to stop worrying, and I’m inviting you to join me.
One day, your little one will grow up and become a perfectly normal, functioning adult. So why not take a deep breath and let it go? Here are a few things we should all stop stressing about today:
- Potty Training: Your child will eventually learn to use the toilet and won’t be in diapers forever. I’m currently trying to potty train my son, who seems to sit on the potty a million times without success. But I promise, this won’t last forever. Aside from the occasional mishap, adults generally don’t poop their pants—eventually, he’ll master this skill, and I’ll be free from diapers for good.
- Pacifier Use: You probably won’t see many high school juniors sucking on pacifiers during their SATs. I’m not worried that my 2.5-year-old still loves her binkie. She’ll give it up when she’s ready, just like your child will.
- Food Preferences: Your kid will one day request something other than chicken nuggets or frozen waffles. Palates mature over time, and I guarantee that your child will eventually learn to enjoy a variety of foods—even those pesky vegetables. Keep that carrot dance routine handy!
- Sleeping Through the Night: Every new parent wonders when their baby will sleep through the night. As a mom of two toddlers, I can tell you it hasn’t happened yet for us, but it will. Soon enough, you’ll find yourself dragging them out of bed in the morning.
- Bed-Hogging: Your child will eventually stop wanting to sleep in your bed. Right now, I’m sharing my queen-sized bed with two little ones who seem to think my head is a comfy pillow. One day, they won’t want to snuggle so close, and I’ll have my space back.
- Independent Play: Believe it or not, your child will learn to entertain themselves. They’ll engage in creative play without needing you to orchestrate every activity. It might seem impossible now, but hang in there!
- Clothing Choices: Unless nudity becomes a lifestyle choice, your child will learn to keep their clothes on when in public. Some kids even develop a knack for fashion as they grow older—so let them run around naked if it means less laundry for you!
- Bath Time: Okay, this one might be a bit iffy; some kids may always resist bath time. But let’s be real, every friend group needs a stinky kid, right?
The bottom line is that parents tend to worry about countless things, and that’s just a waste of our precious mental energy. Instead, let’s focus on enjoying this loud and chaotic stage of life. Your kids will grow up, sleep on their own, give up their pacifiers, and perhaps even become that kid who doesn’t mind a little dirt. The most important thing is that they’ll grow up to love you, and that’s what truly matters.

Summary
Parenting can be filled with worries, especially when it comes to the milestones of our children. But it’s essential to remember that these phases are temporary, and soon enough, they’ll grow out of these behaviors. Focus on enjoying the present moments instead of stressing about the future.
