5 Things I Won’t Miss When My Only Child Heads Off to College
Hey friends! So, my daughter, my one and only, is getting ready to pack her bags for college. After years of just us—think our own little version of Gilmore Girls—it’s going to be a big change when she leaves. I’ll definitely miss her, but I’ve got a few secret little delights in mind for when it’s just me and the dog hanging out at home:
-
Dessert for Dinner? Yes, Please!
I can’t say I’ve been the best role model for healthy eating, especially when it comes to ice cream dinners. Sure, I’ve justified our fondue nights with veggies and fruit, but a turtle brownie hardly balances out the food pyramid! Soon, I’ll be able to indulge in sundaes whenever I want—maybe I’ll even consider buying a second freezer for all the sweets! -
Tampons Will Stay Put!
It blows my mind that despite having a stockpile of supplies that could rival a grocery store, I still find myself yelling for my daughter to grab me a “stick.” Can’t they just magically replenish themselves? I swear, my stash always seems depleted! But soon, I’ll be able to keep everything right where I left it. -
Netflix Will Finally Get Me
I’m a sucker for light rom-coms and historical dramas, but right now, Netflix thinks I’m into yoga documentaries and cult classics. My daughter’s taste is a bit too offbeat for my liking. Once she’s gone, I’ll finally have personalized recommendations that suit my style—bring on the period pieces! -
No More Lost Towels
As much as I love my daughter, she treats towels like they’re going out of style! I can’t tell you how many full-sized towels I find scattered around the house, only to end up in the laundry with that funky smell. Luckily, she’s a whiz at laundry, so I’ll at least get a break from that! -
Coffee Budget for Girls’ Nights Out
As I age, caffeine after noon sends me straight to the moon, but my daughter drinks coffee like it’s water. One pod per cup, strong French roast—no wonder my coffee budget is through the roof! With her gone, I can reallocate those funds for dinners with friends and have some fun nights out. Happy hour, here I come!
While I’ll certainly miss my daughter, there are little things I won’t be sad to leave behind. I’ll finally have time to get to know my Roku, and hopefully Netflix will understand my preferences better while I enjoy cupcakes on the couch. Plus, I’ll still be just a text away from my daughter, who will probably leave her towels lying around somewhere new!
