Is It (Just Me, or Is It Really Hot?)

Hey there! So, the other day, I finally decided to tackle the garden after a long hiatus. We spent hours outside, filling up six yard waste bags, and honestly, it felt amazing. It was like we were saving our neighborhood property values one weed at a time! But come Sunday, every move I made felt like I had run a marathon. My arms, legs, shoulders, and back were all screaming at me. My partner was in the same boat, but the kids? They were full of energy (and yes, they helped out the whole time!).

Fast forward to today, and I made my way to the clinic where I work as a doctor. I’ve survived the crazy temperature changes of perimenopause, and thankfully, I was feeling a bit less sore. I got there early and started chatting with a medical assistant about her adorable 3-year-old. When she asked if I have kids or grandkids, it hit me—this was the first time someone had ever asked if I had grandkids! Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m in my mid-40s and totally ready for that chapter, but wow, talk about a wake-up call!

I always tell my kids that I cherish every stage of life, and deep down, I believe it. Every hot flash and gray hair has been part of my journey, and I’ve learned to embrace it all. Plus, I’ve reached that glorious phase where I won’t take nonsense from anyone! But seriously, if you ever have the chance to ask me about my future grandkids, please respond with surprise and compliment me on how youthful I look for a grandma. Oh, and while you’re at it, crank up that air conditioning!

In summary, life keeps getting better with age, and while I’m looking forward to grandkids, I’m also enjoying this no-drama phase of life. Just remember to ask about my future grandkids with a shocked face and a compliment—it’s the little things, right?
