Oh, The Irony – Ashley Madison Users Duped by a Lack of Women on the Site
So, some wild news has come to light following the Ashley Madison hack: it turns out that the majority of users were basically paying for a fantasy, as there were hardly any real women on the site. Can you believe that? The men who shelled out big bucks for the chance at an affair were left holding the bag. What a twist!
According to the data, out of 5.5 million “female” accounts, only about 12,000 were actual women who used the site. And even that number is a bit misleading since it only represents those who paid to delete their accounts. In fact, a mere 1,492 women ever checked their inboxes! The chat feature, which attracted around 11 million men, saw only 2,400 women participating. As one writer from TechBuzz quipped, “When you sift through the data, it’s clear that most men on Ashley Madison weren’t actually having affairs; they were just paying for a dream.”
With around 37 million people in the database, the scant 12,000 real female accounts stand out, especially since many of the profiles appear to have been created right from Ashley Madison’s own servers. This analysis comes from a deep dive by a writer named Jamie Torres, who pointed out some telling signs in the data. She noted, “Ashley Madison’s team did a decent job of making their fake women’s accounts look real. They displayed nicknames, photos, and flirty comments for men to see. But when it came to backend data, they weren’t as careful. The women’s email addresses and IPs showed clear signs of being fabricated. Plus, they didn’t even bother to fake user activity… It’s like a big cosmic joke where millions of men are writing messages and spending cash on women who aren’t even there.”
So, it seems the cheaters ended up being played themselves! What a twist of fate. Or karma. Or just a really expensive prank. Regardless, I doubt anyone’s shedding tears for the 57 million men who got duped.
