7 Things Kids Can Say That Adults Can’t Get Away With
Kids truly have a unique way with words. The boldness of their statements often leaves us adults shaking our heads in disbelief. Honestly, if I spoke to my partner, my boss, or my friends like my daughter talks to me, I’d probably end up single, jobless, and nursing a drink all alone. Which, now that I think about it, might not be too bad after all.
Little ones tend to say whatever comes to their minds, often without consideration for the consequences. As a parent of a nearly 5-year-old, I can confirm that my daughter is a bit of a wild card. She’s capable of saying things that are rude, crude, or downright inappropriate—but sometimes they’re also hilariously funny. And while she might know some of her comments are off-limits, that doesn’t stop her from voicing them.
Sure, part of this is just kids being innocent and exploring boundaries, but a large part is simply a fearless attitude that would make even the most confident adult pause. Here are a few gems that only kids can get away with saying:
- “This tastes gross! I want something different!”
If I dared to say this to my partner after she put in hours of work preparing dinner, I’d be wearing that meal and sleeping on the couch. No questions asked. - “SHHH! I can’t hear my cartoon!”
If I told someone to be quiet because of a kids’ show, they’d probably think I was losing it. But when my daughter says it? We all hush up. - “My bottom is wet!”
This one definitely has no adult equivalent. If someone said this in front of others, the room would clear out fast! - “WAAAAAAAHHH!!!”
If we threw fits like our kids do, we’d be in serious trouble. Honestly, some days I wish I could just let loose like that for a bit. - “Can you help me wipe?”
Ah, the glamorous side of parenting. - “That’s mine! You can’t take it!”
We all think this at times, especially when someone grabs our last snack. But adults know better than to voice it out loud. Kids, however, can be unapologetically selfish. - “I don’t like you.”
We might feel this way about a coworker or even family members sometimes, but saying it out loud? That’s a different story. My daughter has no issue telling me this whenever I say “no” or “maybe,” and she’s completely serious about it!
At the end of the day, kids say what they feel, and honestly, sometimes we wish we could do the same.
