The Ten Commandments of Back-to-School Parenting
Ah, the back-to-school season is upon us! As the days grow shorter and excitement fills the air, we could all benefit from a little playful guidance. So, here are the Ten Commandments of Back-to-School to help you navigate this time of year.
- Thou shalt not envy the fancy $100 backpack. Your backpack will face dirt and wear, so be grateful for the sturdy $30 option that shall be bestowed upon you.
- Thou shalt complete thy summer assignments. It may feel like a daunting task, but it’s for your own good!
- Thou shalt respect thy parents. They hold the power over all things electronic in your life—treat them kindly.
- Thou shalt not fib for approval. Your wise elders know that you are not alone in facing challenges—honesty is the best policy.
- Thou shalt wake early with joy on the chosen first day. Ready yourself to share your unique talents with the world!
- Thou shalt honor thy teacher. These dedicated individuals are here to help you reach your potential, so shower them with praise.
- Thou shalt eat thy lunch. Gone are the days of endless snacking—make sure to enjoy your meal.
- Thou shalt deliver all papers to your parents for signatures. Even if it feels tedious, it’s necessary to avoid the wrath of the higher authorities.
- Thou shalt share Clorox wipes generously. Cleanliness is next to godliness—let us banish germs from our desks!
- Thou shalt endure. When the day feels endless and the workload heavy, remember that perseverance builds strength.
With these guiding principles, I send you forth into the school year of 2015-16. Go out and thrive!
