Vasectomy Time!

When it comes to parenting, I firmly believe that both moms and dads should share the load equally. Of course, how that plays out is a different story. Generally, equality in parenting means both partners are involved, from diaper duty to those awkward “The Talk” moments. Child-rearing is truly an equal opportunity venture, right?

But when it comes to the baby-making side of things, moms typically carry the heavier burden. Here’s a quick rundown of the efforts I’ve put into either creating or preventing little ones:

  • 3 C-sections
  • 1 surgically repaired uterine septum
  • Managing PCOS
  • Birth control pills
  • Mirena
  • Clomid
  • Surviving preeclampsia
  • Injecting blood thinners into my pregnant belly

Now, let’s take a look at what my husband has contributed:

  • Provided sperm
  • Withheld sperm

Yep, that’s the reality of it, isn’t it? Now, I’ve decided it’s time for a change. I’m all set to have my IUD removed, and I plan for my husband to get a vasectomy. Because, honestly, I’ve earned it!

After all I’ve been through, I’m done with the constant juggling of my reproductive hormones. I’m done with the sobs and rage that come with IUD placement. My uterus has been through the wringer—if it were a soldier, it would be a battle-hardened veteran! Meanwhile, my husband’s vas deferens are still as pristine as day one. (Fun fact: saying “vas deferens” is oddly satisfying. Vas deferens. Vas deferens.)

But that’s about to change! I want him to consult with a urologist while I stock up on frozen peas for the recovery. I’ll remind him of the three major surgeries I endured to bring our kids into the world and how I’ve been on a rollercoaster of hormone treatments. Honestly, I’m all tapped out of any more surgical adventures.

This isn’t just a rant about motherhood; I know it’s not my husband’s fault he lacks a uterus. I get it. But after years of battling with my own body, I feel like I’ve paid my dues. I’ve heard countless stories from friends about how stepping away from hormonal birth control helped them regain their well-being. One woman mentioned her depression lifted after ditching the pills, while another found her cycles improved without interference. Some even reported a boost in their sex drive!

I’m ready to take action. I want my husband’s vasectomy scheduled for this fall! And I assure you, dear partner, my lady parts will be eternally grateful for this decision.

In summary, it’s time for a shift in the balance of parenting responsibilities, particularly when it comes to reproductive health. I’m all in for my husband’s vasectomy, and I look forward to the relief it will bring to both of us!
