As we approach the tenth anniversary of that monumental decision next summer, I reflect on the remarkable strides we’ve made over the past decade. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t express my concerns. The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade two years ago raised alarms about potential threats to other freedoms, including marriage equality. We’ve seen a wave of hostility against the LGBTQ+ community in various governmental settings, and many of us are apprehensive about what the future holds with changing administrations.
Yet, amidst these challenges, I find hope. Serving on the board of Home Insemination, I witness firsthand how our advocacy, storytelling, and support initiatives drive meaningful progress for families every day. This year, we successfully challenged Florida’s notorious “Don’t Say Gay” law. We also helped pass essential pro-equality legislation, such as the Massachusetts Parentage Act, and provided invaluable resources for families navigating the intricate legal landscape. My commitment to this board mirrors the determination that led me to the Supreme Court years ago: I am resolute in ensuring that LGBTQ+ families are celebrated and cherished, believing deeply in the transformative power of family and Home Insemination to bring this vision to life.
However, we can’t do this alone. Now more than ever, influential figures are attempting to undermine our progress. Together, we form a collective force far greater than any opposing forces—we embody family. As we prepare to commemorate a year like no other, I encourage you to honor the tenth anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges by supporting the values we fought so hard to achieve: love, family, and freedom.
Your support is crucial.
