5 Stages of Pumpkin Picking with Kids

It’s that magical time of year again, friends! Grab those red wagons and hit the ATM for some cash—it’s time to take the kiddos pumpkin picking. Here’s how this adventure will unfold, step by step:

1. Denial, Numbness, and Shock

You can’t quite recall promising your kids a trip to the pumpkin patch. But here you are, with a free day on your hands and no solid excuse not to go. As you drive towards the farm with a wagon in tow, you wonder: How did I end up back here again?

2. Bargaining

You promise the kids they can each select one medium-sized pumpkin—if they behave, of course. If they misbehave, you’ll just end up wasting two hours of your life to teach a lesson. So, fingers crossed they can at least manage to be somewhat good, because this is supposed to be family fun, right?

3. Frustration

You finally find parking, but it’s a mile away from the entrance. Upon entering, you realize you left the wagon in the car, leading to a workout as you carry pumpkins and a basket of apples in your arms. I just hope this fruit isn’t as pricey as last time.

4. Exasperation

“OH NO! Stop running through the pumpkin patch! Don’t throw that! Or taste it! Or step on those! This is why we never do nice things!”

5. Acceptance

As you snap some photos for the holiday card, you notice the delicious cider donuts. (Munching on donuts) Well, I guess it wasn’t all that bad after all!
