Hey There, Juggling Life with Little Ones
I see you over there, juggling life with your little ones, and I’ve got to say—I’m totally judging you.
I watch as you grasp your child’s hand in the parking lot while he squirms like a fish trying to escape. You lift him into the air, and even though I can tell you’re worn out from a day full of errands with a mini tornado, you flip him upside down and tickle his tummy. His laughter rings out, and it’s infectious.
I feel like I know you. You might be a working parent, or perhaps you’re a stay-at-home mom, but deep down, you question if you’re making the right choices. I catch you squatting down to gently lift your daughter’s chin, making her meet your gaze outside the ice cream shop. You’re frustrated because she just whacked her sister in the head, but you speak softly to her, probably resisting the urge to say something like, “I just don’t want to raise a brat.”
You look a bit worn, and sometimes you glance around as if you’re unsure how you ended up with these lively kids calling you their mom. They cling to you and make a mess, yet I can see you pour every ounce of love you have into them.
I witness you brushing away the tears from your little girl’s face after she took a tumble while running, and as she looks at you for comfort, you keep your composure, knowing that if you panic, she’ll panic too.
When your son clambers onto your lap and rests his tiny hand on your cheek, I can tell how much he adores you. You pause your conversation and your eyes light up in a way that says you never knew love could be this deep.
As you drive and she cries about the sun being in her eyes, you kindly take off your sunglasses and give them to her.
I see you at the playground, snapping pictures because, honestly, how cute are they? Then you sneak a peek at your phone, just trying to connect with another adult for a brief moment. I noticed that person without kids telling you to savor every second, gazing pointedly at your phone. I’d totally trip them for you, no worries!
But I also see you battling with your own thoughts each day. You might think, “Am I doing enough? Are they normal? Have I somehow messed them up? Am I enough?” And hey, I’m over here observing you, judging you. If only you could see yourself through my eyes, you’d realize that yes, you are absolutely enough.
