Your 14-Week-Old Baby’s Growth and Development Milestones

Congratulations on making it to the 14-week mark with your little one! At this age, your baby is starting to show some real personality, leaving behind the clumsy newborn phase and becoming a bit more coordinated. You might be tempted to introduce solid foods or a sippy cup to keep that adorable face busy, but hold on there, mama! Breast milk or formula should still be the mainstay of your baby’s diet until they hit the one-year milestone. Solid foods are typically recommended to start between four to six months.

Although your baby may seem ready for the next culinary adventure, their digestive system isn’t quite prepared to handle it just yet. The same goes for water; it might look innocent, but your baby’s kidneys are still developing and can’t manage salt and water balance effectively. Too much water can actually dilute their blood, leading to a serious condition called hyponatremia, which can cause seizures. So, as cute as it would be to see them with a smeared face and a cup of water, patience is key for a little while longer.

Taking Care of Yourself

On the topic of nourishment, how are you taking care of yourself? The pressure to “bounce back” after childbirth can feel overwhelming, especially with celebrity culture throwing unrealistic standards at us. Remember, getting back to your pre-baby body takes time—sometimes way more than we’d like. If you’re breastfeeding, you actually need to consume around five hundred extra calories each day compared to other moms. So while it’s great to aim for health, don’t let the skinny, crash-dieting celebrities get you down.
