I always imagined you would be warm-hearted and courageous, just like your dad. I pictured both of you with dark hair and deep brown eyes, but seeing you now reminds me how off I was.
I was aware of the strength of a mother’s love, thanks to my own upbringing. But what I’ve truly learned is that the greatest gift I can offer you is the ability to be independent.
I’ve discovered that laughter makes tasks easier than any struggle ever could. In many important ways, you’re wiser than me, and that’s a revelation I cherish.
Being your mama in this unique family is a journey I’ve embraced. Our differences are what make us, well, us, and that’s perfectly okay.
I’ve learned to meet your gaze because you’re always searching for mine. I’ve seen you feel frightened by thunder one moment and then twirl in the rain the next, and somehow, that has nothing to do with me.
I can only imagine what it will feel like to wrap my arms around you when you’re towering over me like a giant. I can’t fathom the day your heart feels its first break. And the moment we drive away from you? Unthinkable. I can’t wait to see you hold your first child, finally grasping the depth of love that exists in the world.
