Netflix and Kids: A Whole Different Vibe from Netflix and Chill

Okay, so I have to come clean: for the past year or so, I thought I was enjoying some “Netflix and Chill” time when really, I was just stacking up episode after episode of Bluey, all while I took a breather or had a quiet moment amidst the chaos of dirty dishes. But, surprise! What I was actually doing was more like “Netflix and Kids.” And let me tell you, it’s not the same thing at all.

Netflix and Chill vs. Netflix and Kids

Netflix and Chill? That’s all about cozying up with someone, suggesting a movie, and then, well, you know—things heat up. But Netflix and Kids? It’s basically the antithesis.

While Netflix and Chill is about intimacy and connection, Netflix and Kids is about finally snagging some alone time. It’s about letting Peppa Pig or those quirky H2O Mako Mermaids entertain the little ones for a solid 20 minutes (or if I’m lucky, the entire first season of The Magic School Bus!) while I catch up on work, sneak in a shower, or simply flop down on a mountain of laundry and figure out how to add a fun filter to my latest selfie. All while my kids are blissfully absorbed in something rated TV-Y or TV-G, or in emergencies, TV-14.

And let’s be honest here—Netflix and Kids is far superior to Netflix and Chill! Just think about it: I don’t have to worry about shaving my legs, staying awake, or smelling fresh for the kiddos to enjoy their screen time! Honestly, I’ve been married for a decade, so the same rules could apply for Netflix and Chill, but you get my drift: zero effort involved.

Thank goodness for Netflix and Kids, which gives me the precious opportunity to hit pause on my parenting duties and take a much-needed break from my children, all while they zone out to as many episodes of Pingu as they can handle.

But a little heads up for all you romantically inclined streamers: some version of Netflix and Chill is probably what led me here in the first place. My kids are likely the result of the classic “DVR and Date Night” era. Stream responsibly!
