The Adventures of Dad’s Daycare: A Stay-at-Home Mom’s Perspective
When my partner suggests I take a break—whether it’s shopping, getting my nails done, or enjoying dinner with friends away from the kids—it’s always a delightful escape. As a full-time mom, the chance to wear something other than sweatpants and step outside into the world is a rare treat I relish. However, the day after my brief getaway is always an adventure of its own—kind of like an exciting yet bewildering scavenger hunt. I can’t quite understand how things spiral into chaos when Dad is in charge, but I’ve uncovered some truly bizarre surprises.
Here are my latest “findings” after Dad took over kid duty:
- Both kids are dressed, which is great, but their clothes are all inside-out or comically small. The wild part? No one seems to mind! They’re living their best lives in this fashion faux pas.
- I discovered three plastic balls floating in the toilet. Clearly, Dad was helping our toddler with his throwing skills—too bad the playroom lines were a bit blurry.
- I found a pair of my underwear in the instant oatmeal box. I’ll never understand how my little one ended up in the pantry with my unmentionables.
- One of my toddler’s green high-tops was chilling next to the milk in the fridge, complete with a crumpled tissue inside. Your guess is as good as mine.
- A small, folded dirty diaper was cleverly hidden under the couch, emitting a pungent odor that took me by surprise. Looks like my son got sidetracked while practicing his “helper” skills.
- The TV remote was out of commission, which was frustrating since I needed my morning news. Upon inspection, I found the back was open with no batteries in sight. Someone must have made off with them while I was gone!
- While sorting through my laundry, I stumbled upon tiny model cars—a lime green truck, a red Corvette, and an orange Porsche—hidden among the baby vomit-stained clothes. I’m pretty sure my husband isn’t the laundry type.
- As I reached for an apple in the fridge, I noticed tiny bite marks all over my fruit. Apparently, my toddler had a little snack adventure. At least he returned the half-eaten orange for the rest of us.
- While getting ready for a workout (which I have no intention of following through with), I found a package of thick-cut bacon nestled among my sports bras. Now that’s a mystery!
- Inside one of my shoes was a bright blue Easter egg containing what looked like half of a Chick-fil-A chicken nugget. A delightful surprise, if I do say so!
- I found pretend food artfully “hidden” around my living room—mostly in candle holders and lanterns. One plastic bagel was even stuck to the wall with hot-pink Play-Doh. Thanks for the creativity, honey!
While I genuinely appreciate my moments of freedom, these quirky discoveries always leave me pondering what mischief my husband and our little whirlwind were up to while I was away. Were they bonding over chaos or just having too much fun together? I’d bet on the latter—they’re quite the duo.
