A Heartfelt Message of Love and Acceptance
From the moment I turned five, I imagined a future filled with love, marriage, and family. I pictured meeting you by 25, welcoming our little ones by 30, and above all, experiencing the purest joy life has to offer.
My journey has been anything but ordinary. After being diagnosed with autism at the age of four, my world shifted dramatically. I transitioned from a place of confusion and limited speech to attending therapy sessions that shaped me into who I am today. Now, I travel across the country sharing my story of resilience, often with you cheering me on from the audience.
I promise to shower you with unconditional love every single day. I’ve grown from a child who shied away from touch due to sensory overload to someone who embraces affection, even if it’s a challenge for many on the autism spectrum. In moments of disagreement, I’ll strive to communicate openly, seeking to understand your feelings. And when I need some space to recharge, I’ll make sure to express that to you. I will always celebrate your achievements, letting you know how incredibly proud I am of you.
Our wedding day will stand out as one of the happiest moments of my life, with you by my side. As we discuss starting a family, I’ll look to my parents for guidance, drawing from their experiences with me. My goal is to be the kind of dad my father was—supportive in both joy and hardship.
Love, for me, has always been a dream. It can stir up anxiety and butterflies, but it also brings out the best in me. As a child, the concept of love often felt daunting, especially amidst bullying. I remember a peer in high school telling me I’d never find a partner because I was different. That hurt deeply, but I refused to let it define my future.
I’ve had several relationships, but none compare to what we share. I knew from the start that I would find you; it was just a matter of when. Thank you for loving me, quirks and all, and for being the partner I’ve always longed for. What we have is a serene love, and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.
This letter was inspired by the beautiful writing of Mia Thompson in her piece, “A Love Letter to My Neurotypical Partner, From Your Autistic Lover.” If you’re interested in more on this topic, check out this post on intracervical insemination. It’s always good to stay informed!
