12 Ways My Toddlers Turned Pinterest into a Comedy Show

You might be one of those lucky parents with a little one who can sit quietly for hours, engrossed in a puzzle or a Pinterest project. Unfortunately, I’m not in that camp. Like so many parents, I often find myself yearning for just a moment of peace—perhaps to tackle that ever-growing pile of laundry or at least finish the glass of water I poured six hours ago. So, I, too, turn to Pinterest for some inspiration. Here are some toddler activities that didn’t quite go as planned for my family (and our poor cat):

1. Rice Sensory Bin

It was a rainy day, but instead of some quiet playtime, it turned into a rice blizzard. My toddlers not only covered themselves in rice but also decided it was a delightful snack.

2. Contact Paper Art

Rather than sticking things to the contact paper, my kids found it much more entertaining to stick the paper to everything else—like the floor, the cats, and even their own faces.

3. Pom-Poms and Tongs

Give a toddler a pair of tongs, and you might as well have handed them a new toy! Forget sorting; they found it far more amusing to pinch themselves, their sibling, or even our dog.

4. Chalkboard Scribbles

Ah, yes, the joy of chalkboard art—until they realized that chewing on chalk was a fun alternative.

5. Color-Coded Popsicle Sorting

This activity was meant for toddlers who can match colors; mine had a blast tossing the sticks into a chaotic pile instead.

6. Pom-Pom Drop

I tried to create an elaborate dropping contraption with toilet paper rolls, thinking it would keep their attention. Instead, I now have a light bulb to replace and a cat with a newfound fear of marbles.

7. Sticker Overload

If we never see another sticker again, it won’t be too soon! I’ve found them stuck on everything from my clothing to our pets.

8. Squish Bags

I had high hopes for this sensory activity, but my little one managed to tear it open within seconds, leaving me to clean up the mess while he watched with glee.

9. Muffin Tin Sorting

This turned into a race to see who could slide the muffin tin across the table the fastest—resulting in a loud crash and a flurry of plastic animals searching for their “color.”

10. Glitter Jars

These were just waiting to cause a head injury, and of course glitter ended up everywhere.

As I wrap this up, my youngest is delightfully busy inserting and removing a straw from a juice box, creating a sticky mess all over the floor. It may not have been a Pinterest find, but hey, at least it’s quiet for now.
