Radio DJ Shares His Baby’s Birth Live on Air, and It’s Absolutely Heartwarming
In a delightful twist on traditional birthing experiences, a radio DJ decided to invite his listeners to witness a very special family moment — the arrival of his son. While many expectant mothers prefer a quiet and private atmosphere during delivery, one couple took a different route, allowing the audience of a St. Louis radio station to tune in live for the birth of their baby boy.
DJ and executive producer at 106.5 The Wave, Mike Thompson, revealed the decision in an interview, admitting, “I honestly wasn’t sure how my wife Jenna would feel about broadcasting such a personal moment, but to my surprise, she was on board. I was just glad she didn’t let any choice words fly.” And really, who could blame her? Labor can be intense, and we all know some phrases are definitely not radio-friendly!
Jenna, a nurse, added, “I thought it would be fun. Babies are born every day, just not usually on the radio!” Fortunately, the birth of their fourth child went smoothly. Mike shared that baby Oliver arrived after only two pushes, with Jenna barely making a sound. However, there was a moment of concern when the little one didn’t take his first breath right away.
Listeners could feel the tension as the nurses worked to encourage Oliver to cry, and when he finally let out a small gurgle, the relief was palpable. Mike recalled, “You could hear a hush fall over the room as they tried to get him to breathe. In real life, you just never know what’s going to happen.”
