When it comes to labor and delivery, we often focus on the babies and their needs. However, Ryan Reynolds humorously reminds us that moms also deserve a little TLC. During a recent chat on Late Night with Tom Richards, Reynolds shared some sage advice for new dads, especially since Tom and his partner are expecting their first child. Reynolds stressed the importance of stepping up after the baby arrives, saying, “Just do the dirty work, man. You’ve got to handle the diapers and those late-night wake-up calls. Your partner—a human being will come out of your partner, so she’s done enough. Just change the diapers and take care of everything else.“
Seriously, can we get that printed on a t-shirt? Moms could rock it while recovering in their comfy mesh underwear and juggling feedings.
While we love to share the heartwarming and funny moments of childbirth, the reality is that those initial days and weeks postpartum can be incredibly tough. You’re dealing with bleeding, possible stitches or a c-section recovery, and soreness in places you didn’t know existed. Plus, there’s a tiny human demanding attention 24/7.
We often pretend that bouncing back from childbirth is a piece of cake, but the truth is, it takes a serious toll on your body. Doctors often advise taking it easy for a few weeks for a reason. Let’s face it, saying “my body feels like it was in a car crash, but I can totally do the laundry” is a little bit of an understatement.
As new parents, we might hesitate to ask for help, but Reynolds’ words remind us of a reality we often downplay: a real, living human just made their grand entrance into the world. If that’s not a reason to let someone else step up, I don’t know what is.
