As a parent navigating the world of picky eaters, I’ve finally accepted that kids have their own unique dining philosophy. No amount of pleading, negotiating—even bribing—will change their minds. These tiny foodies are governed by their own set of rules, and honestly? Resistance is futile. Here’s how to embrace their culinary quirks:
1. Color is a No-Go
Bright colors? No thanks! Beige foods like rice, pasta, and bagels are the safe bets. A touch of color, like a smidge of tomato sauce, might be tolerated, but don’t count on it.
2. Ketchup Reigns Supreme
Always have it on hand! This red wonder can make even the weirdest meals palatable.
3. Crusts Are Off-Limits
Keep those crusts far away! They are the ultimate enemy at the dinner table.
4. Flavor of the Month
If they loved something last week, it doesn’t mean it’s still on the menu this week. Kids change their minds like the wind!
5. Chicken Fingers Are a Special Case
They may not touch crusts, but if it’s chicken fingers, they’ll devour the coating and barely touch the chicken itself. It’s all about the crunch, right?

While I may lean on a glass of red wine as a serving of fruit, I can understand where the kids are coming from. As long as they’re growing and occasionally straying from this list, we’re doing just fine. Most days, that’s good enough.
