Delta Airlines’ Support for This Pumping Mom is a Breath of Fresh Air
In a refreshing turn of events, a mother recently took to Delta Airlines’ Facebook page to share her heartwarming experience while pumping breast milk during a flight. Jenna, a mom of triplets, posted a photo of herself pumping in her seat while praising the flight attendants for their exceptional support on her roundtrip from Atlanta to Dallas.
Jenna recounted how the crew went above and beyond to make her flight comfortable and accommodating. Not only were they respectful and courteous, but they also offered her snacks and even relocated her to an open first-class seat for privacy during her pumping session. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “As a breastfeeding mother to triplets, it’s vital for me not to miss a pumping session, especially when traveling. The flight attendants, Sarah and Emily, allowed me to sit in an empty first-class seat for more space and privacy. They ensured I had plenty of water and snacks while I pumped.”
Jenna highlighted how thankful she was for the crew’s efforts to ease the challenges of being a breastfeeding mom. She noted that the Dallas gate attendant, Mark, also offered her an empty first-class seat on her return flight to continue her pumping routine. It’s heartening to see a company advocating for breastfeeding mothers and helping make their journeys more manageable.
Given the all-too-frequent negativity surrounding nursing mothers in public spaces, Jenna’s post resonated widely, racking up over 44,000 likes and almost 3,000 shares. Many others joined in to share their positive experiences with Delta, with one user commenting, “#Delta helped me with nursing my baby during the flight by arranging my own row for added space and privacy. Thank you, Delta! This happened 3 times!!”
It’s unfortunate that in 2016, we’re still surprised by such positive stories, where a mother can pump without feeling pressured to hide or compromise her comfort. This incident serves as a hopeful reminder that change is on the horizon, and it would be wonderful to see more businesses emulate Delta’s pro-breastfeeding approach.
