Toddler Dials 911 Over Fashion Crisis, Gains a New Buddy
In a charming twist of fate, a 2-year-old named Lily Thompson from South Carolina found herself in a rather unique predicament this week: a wardrobe emergency. Having recently learned how to dial 911, Lily didn’t hesitate to seek help when her outfit just wouldn’t cooperate. We’ve all been there, right? Whether it’s those jeans that mysteriously shrunk overnight or discovering that your favorite shirt is now a canvas for your toddler’s lunch, morning fashion meltdowns are an age-old struggle.
On Wednesday morning, Lily’s fashion woes led her to dial 911, but the dispatchers were understandably baffled by her adorable babble. Lucky for her, Deputy Sarah Mason was nearby and quickly zipped over to ensure everything was alright. “When I arrived, she greeted me at the door with her pants half on, exclaiming that she couldn’t get them on,” Deputy Mason recounted. So, she plopped down on the stairs and helped Lily get dressed. Once that crisis was averted, the deputy tackled the next issue: tying Lily’s shoes! Then came the moment that melted hearts—Lily asked Deputy Mason for a hug, which she described as the best part of her shift.
Lily’s mom, Jessica Brown, shared the amusing incident on social media, saying, “Well, my little one decided to call the police while I was at work!” Apparently, Lily’s grandfather was home, blissfully unaware that his granddaughter had dialed for help. Even though Jessica had taught Lily about 911, the little one didn’t quite grasp when it was appropriate to use it. After all, kids often play with phones, and sometimes those calls are just accidents. “We usually tell them, ‘This is for emergencies only,’ but she’s just 2!” Deputy Mason explained. It’s worth noting that over 250,000 accidental 911 calls were made in Greenville County, South Carolina in 2015 alone.
Fortunately, Deputy Mason took the call in stride, and she and Lily quickly became fast friends. “My heart went out to Lily because not too long ago, I was that little girl dialing 911 just to see police officers come to my house,” Deputy Mason shared. “I was fascinated by them as a kid!”
