Moms Share With Jimmy Kimmel Their Real Mother’s Day Wishes—Spoiler: It’s Not Macaroni Necklaces
When it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, kids have it easy. The phrase “it’s the thought that counts” was probably invented for a reason: children don’t need to buy gifts because, let’s face it, they don’t have jobs! If they do manage to scrape together some cash, it’s usually from our wallets anyway. And let’s not kid ourselves; no gift is less meaningful than one they’ve essentially purchased with our own money.
Crafting? Forget it! Kids aren’t exactly known for their ability to create practical gifts. Plus, it’s not the 1970s anymore—Mom definitely doesn’t need another ceramic ashtray. But hey, she’ll pretend to love it! Just take a look at your fridge; if it’s anything like mine, it’s a gallery of “artwork” that would make even the worst artist cringe. I mean, even a toddler in art class would shake their head in disbelief. But that’s the magic of motherhood—every piece is a treasure because it came from her little ones.
Even if the gift is a total disaster, Mom will always tell her kids how much she adores it. Yet, when she sits down with Jimmy Kimmel, the truth comes out. In a hilariously eye-opening video, Kimmel asks moms about the “unique” creations from their kids and what they actually desire for Mother’s Day. Based on what I know about my partner, it rings true—especially the part about celebrity crushes (Ben Affleck, anyone?).
The moms featured in the clip joke about the questionable gifts they receive and make it clear that what they truly want is a day to relax with friends, sipping mimosas, and maybe even discussing Batman’s, um, endowments. If that’s what my partner is interested in, I’ll gladly whisk the kids away for the day!
My partner is one of those rare moms who genuinely enjoys spending Mother’s Day with our kids—until about 10 AM when she starts daydreaming about some peace and quiet. But the appeal of mimosas, friends, and well-deserved space is definitely relatable for many moms out there.
Of course, Kimmel and the moms are having a laugh about Mother’s Day and the realities of motherhood. We all appreciate the handmade gifts, but if my kid presents my partner with some lumpy ceramic cup, you can bet she’ll be toasting with champagne from it. After all, it’s her special day!
Happy Mother’s Day!

In summary, Mother’s Day is filled with laughter and love, but let’s not kid ourselves: moms also have some very specific wishes. Whether it’s a handmade gift or a day off with friends, the most important thing is to celebrate and appreciate all that they do.
