Woman’s Side-by-Side Instagram Post Proves the Scale Is Just a Number
This fitness enthusiast’s Instagram update about weight gain is making waves!
Many of us have a tendency to let the scale dictate our health journey. But as one amazing woman’s recent Instagram post highlights, that number isn’t the be-all and end-all of fitness. Meet fitness blogger Mia Thompson, who recently shared her transformative journey online, proving that feeling good is far more important than what the scale says.
Mia opened up about starting her fitness routine just eight weeks after giving birth. “Before pregnancy, I weighed 135 pounds. Based on my skewed perception, I set my goal weight at 125 and dreamed of squeezing back into my tightest jeans,” she confessed in her post. Fast forward a few months, and Mia is now nearly 20 pounds heavier. So what’s the deal? She got stronger and healthier!
“Forget the scale!” she exclaimed. “Seriously, can we stop fixating on that stupid number? Your weight doesn’t equal your progress, and for heaven’s sake, don’t let it impact your self-esteem like I used to.”
Mia elaborated that she did hit her goal weight (as seen in her middle photo), but as she began to lift weights and prioritize her well-being, those muscles started to grow. “I’ve gained 20 pounds… I’ve even gone up three pant sizes! In fact, I ripped my ‘skinny jeans’ last week just trying to pull them up,” she shared with a laugh. “By my old standards, I would have thought I was failing miserably. Thank goodness I finally learned to measure my progress by what truly matters — strength, endurance, health, and yes, even happiness! I’ve never felt more comfortable in my skin than I do now. If I hadn’t said ‘forget the scale’ long ago, I would have given up on my fitness journey.”
I can totally relate to Mia’s experience. I’m still working to shed the baby weight from my son, who’s already two years old. It would be easy for me to throw in the towel and say I’ll never reach my goal simply because the scale doesn’t seem to budge. But guess what? Eight months ago, I couldn’t do a single push-up, and now I can crank out 30! Eight months ago, I was gasping for breath just lugging laundry upstairs, and now I feel like a champ.
We often use arbitrary metrics to gauge our health, worth, and value — like the scale, pant sizes, or whether we fit into our “pre-baby” clothes. While Mia absolutely rocks her body at any size, her message is clear: no external measure of health will ever be as significant as how you feel and what your body is capable of. There’s no ideal weight or dress size that will magically bring confidence or completeness, so let’s not allow numbers to bring us down.
As Mia put it, “To that nagging voice in my head that said ‘What the heck is this – not 150!?’ when I stepped on the scale last week, I say forget you. And I think you should say the same to your scale.”

In summary, Mia’s story reminds us that our self-worth should never be tied to a number on a scale. Rather, we should focus on how we feel, our strength, and our overall health. Let’s embrace our journeys and celebrate our progress, no matter how it looks on paper!
