6 Reasons I’m Embracing My Midlife Transformation
When I hit the big 3-5, everything changed. It was as if a switch flipped, and suddenly, I was prioritizing myself. In turn, motherhood and just about everything else became a lot more manageable. Now at 37, I’m striding confidently into my 40s with a delightful sense of “I’ll do what I please.” Honestly, if this is what a midlife crisis feels like, I’m all in. Here are the six things I’ve happily let go of:
-
Filtering My Thoughts
Growing up, I often heard, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” What a load of nonsense! Especially when we see figures like politicians spewing hatred without a care. Well, I have things to say that might not be sugarcoated, but my right to express my thoughts trumps someone else’s comfort. -
Tolerating ‘Mansplaining’
Oh, not anymore! I work with men, live with a man, and encounter men daily, and let me tell you, I’ve had enough of their condescending explanations. I’m no fool—I’m a woman deserving of respect. When this happens, I now call them out, and it feels empowering! -
Neglecting My Own Joys
Food? Yes, please! Not the rabbit food kind, but the stuff that fills my soul. I’ll enjoy wine, drop the occasional f-bomb, indulge in my favorite comfy shoes, and insist on girls’ nights out. My needs matter just as much as everyone else’s. -
Dieting
Unless my doctor gives me a reason to change my eating habits, I’m done stressing over my muffin top. And guess what? I don’t care what anyone thinks about my bathing suit body. No twenty-something will dictate my fashion choices, either—hoops, vibrant hair, and stretchy pants, here I come! -
Unfriending Without Hesitation
I have zero qualms about blocking toxic people on social media. If you share racist memes or engage in pointless arguments, you’re out! I refuse to tiptoe around anyone’s feelings anymore. -
Speaking Up for My Kids
This took some practice, but it’s been worth it. My children come first, so if another kid is misbehaving towards mine, I’m going to bring it up—no sugarcoating. And if my kid is being a brat, please let me know! We’re all in this together, trying to raise decent human beings.
Throughout my life, I’ve encountered strong women who exuded confidence. I always wondered how they found that strength until I turned 30 and realized it comes from within. I created my own empowerment by establishing personal boundaries to protect my happiness and self-worth. Now, I’m that powerful woman, and I’m not giving it up.
