Couple Celebrates Deputy Who Helped Deliver Their Baby with Heartwarming Photoshoot
Meet a Texas couple who turned a speeding ticket into a heartwarming story of new life! When Jenna and Mike Thompson found themselves racing to the hospital for the arrival of their baby, they never expected to make a new friend along the way.
Just two weeks ago, their little one, baby Lily Grace Thompson, made her grand entrance in the most unexpected fashion. After an initial trip to the Fort Worth hospital—about 45 minutes from their home—doctors sent them packing, insisting that Jenna wasn’t in active labor yet. “They told me to come back when my contractions were more intense,” she recounted. “I told them they were about an 8 on the pain scale, and they said to return when it was an 11.”
However, Jenna sensed that baby Lily was ready to make her debut. So, the couple hopped back into their Jeep Liberty and sped down the highway in the early morning hours of July 18. Enter Deputy Constable Jake Reynolds, who happened to be on his way to work when he noticed their haste. After pulling them over at a red light, he learned of their situation and quickly decided to escort them through the streets of Texas, lights flashing and sirens wailing. But Lily had other plans—she simply couldn’t wait.
“Mike was shouting, ‘We’re going to get you to the hospital!’ and I joked, ‘Ha! Pull over!’” Jenna recalled. Deputy Reynolds, sensing the urgency, pulled over as well. “Mike started calling for me, and I dashed to the passenger side. Luckily, everything went smoothly. I caught the baby, cleared her airway, and she started crying right away,” the officer shared. “It was an unforgettable experience.”
The extraordinary circumstances led to a beautiful bond between the Thompsons and Deputy Reynolds. “We’ve gone out for lunch together and met his family,” Jenna said. “It was such an emotional moment for all of us. I wanted to create something special to commemorate that day.”
They reached out to photographer Mia Johnson, who specializes in maternity and newborn photography, to capture the heartwarming moment with Deputy Reynolds’ uniform and badge included in the shoot. “There’s so much negativity around law enforcement right now. This was such a positive story for me,” Mia explained. “My mom and sister are both police officers, so being part of this journey with Jenna and Mike was an honor.” Mia generously offered her services for free, and the results were stunning.
For Deputy Reynolds, the photo shoot was a reminder of why he chose this line of work. “It was a heartfelt experience and a big deal for me,” he told reporters. “This event reaffirmed my commitment to serving the community.”
