Daydreams I Have Now That I’m a Mom

Before I stepped into the world of motherhood, my imagination ran wild with fantasies. I often envisioned myself strolling through the streets of a sunlit Paris, navigating cobblestone paths in chic high heels alongside my best friend. We’d indulge in rich chocolates and buttery croissants while sipping on exquisite wines. Handsome strangers would offer to carry our shopping bags and give us foot massages on command. And, of course, there would be an endless supply of cheese.

As I daydreamed about Leonardo DiCaprio, my fantasies took a different turn, still revolving around high heels and chocolate but in a much more romantic context.

Now, as a mother of three, my thoughts often feel like a chaotic whirlwind. While there’s still space for some daydreaming, my desires have shifted to simpler pleasures—although I would still be thrilled to revisit Paris, enjoy a chat with Leo, and indulge in some fine cheese. These days, I find myself yearning for a little less noise, more moments of peace, and a break from the constant complaints.

Three’s Company, Right?

First on my list is my own version of a ménage à trois. Just picture it: a soothing massage, a little online shopping—thank you, Amazon Prime—and indulging in chocolate cake with my bare hands. All at once, of course.

Quality Time in Dreamland

Next up is the blissful memory of falling asleep without the overactive thoughts that now plague my mind. I miss those tranquil nights before kids took over, where I could simply close my eyes, drift into sweet dreams, and not worry about forgotten tasks or who needs what for school the next day. No more sleepless nights worrying about night terrors or unexpected fevers—just peaceful slumber without the frequent bathroom trips. Now that would be a real dream come true.

The Joy of Solitude

Who knew that the simple act of being alone in the bathroom would become a coveted fantasy? I crave those moments of privacy where I can pee, wash my hands, and admire my reflection—all without a single interruption. I don’t want to hear “mom” echoing from the other side of the door, whether I’m in the shower or enjoying a cheesecake with my phone. Just let me be!

If I could snag some alone time, maybe it would also help restore my short-term memory. I’d love to walk into a room and recall exactly why I entered. Forgetting items on my grocery list—even when they’re written down—has become a frustrating norm. Honestly, sometimes I forget to shave both legs!

Food for Thought

Imagine a life free from complaints about the lack of food in the house. I’d love to return home from the grocery store, exhausted from trying to remember what my kids would actually eat, only to be met with, “Hey, mom, did you get any food?” It wouldn’t just be a fantasy; it would truly be a miracle.

Creating a Comfortable Experience

Gynecological appointments have been a necessary evil for ages, but I can’t help but wish they would take a page from a spa’s playbook. A session with some wine, cookies, and heating pads would certainly make those awkward moments a tad more bearable. Maybe I just need to get out more!

Names That Stick

I’d love to erase the labels like “human tissue” and “vomit cleaner” from my life. While we’re at it, let’s add “pee and poop wiper-upper” to that list too. The chaos of cleaning up after little ones at 2 a.m. is a nightmare I could do without.

So while my fantasies of motherhood may be far-fetched—filled with pee, vomit, dinner complaints, and fleeting moments of identity—I can still indulge in a little daydreaming here and there. I know that when my children grow up and leave home, I might find myself longing for those little fingers poking under the bathroom door or tripping over their shoes. Until that day comes, I’ll cope with the chaos by sneaking in these delightful daydreams—between the complaints and the late-night clean-up.
