Donald Trump’s Disgraceful Remarks: An Unfortunate Revelation

On Friday, the world was taken aback (but not really) when an old video surfaced, showcasing Donald Trump in a rather unsavory light. Captured in 2005 while he was en route to make a cameo on a popular soap opera, the footage featured a candid exchange with a certain Billy Smith from Access Entertainment.

By “candid,” I mean the kind of cringe-worthy banter that makes you squirm in your seat. Trump openly recounted his failed attempts to seduce a married woman, stating, “I moved on her, and I failed. I’ll admit it. I tried to get with her. She was married. And I went after her pretty hard … but I couldn’t seal the deal. And now she’s got those big fake breasts and a whole new look.”

While it’s hardly shocking for someone of his wealth and stature to boast about romantic conquests, it was surprising to hear him discuss a missed opportunity so openly. Isn’t this the guy who scoffs at “losers”? Let’s not forget, at the time of this conversation, he had only been married to Melania for a few months. Draw your own conclusions.

As I tried to wrap my head around his comments, I couldn’t help but wonder if he was subtly criticizing her appearance or using it as a weak justification for his failure. “I’ve got to use some breath mints, just in case I start kissing her,” he remarked. “You know I’m drawn to beautiful women—I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. You don’t even wait… and when you’re a star, they let you do it.”

“Whatever you want,” Billy chimed in.

Trump took it a step further: “Grab them by the… you know the rest.”

Excuse me while I take some deep breaths to stave off the nausea.

Is this really the person the GOP has chosen to lead the free world? A self-absorbed individual who boasts about using his influence to pressure women into unwanted advances, and from his own words, some degree of harassment? It makes me question how many times he’s faced consequences for his behavior.

The notion that one can just “do anything” is deeply concerning, especially in a time when society is finally making strides in educating our youth about consent and personal autonomy. The idea that someone believes it’s acceptable to approach women with such an attitude is terrifying. Keep your hands to yourself unless there’s mutual consent. Wealth and status do not grant you a free pass to disrespect others.

In response to the uproar, Trump quickly issued a statement: “This was locker-room talk, a private conversation from many years ago. Bill Johnson has said far worse to me on the golf course—this isn’t even close. I apologize if anyone was offended.”

It’s telling that Trump thinks equating his behavior with that of Bill Johnson somehow absolves him of responsibility. Sorry, Donald, that doesn’t work. It’s not a valid excuse for my kids, and it certainly shouldn’t work for presidential candidates. At some point, we expect adults to take ownership of their mistakes without dragging others into their mess—this isn’t kindergarten.

Trump has spent his life objectifying women, and what’s frustrating is his apparent lack of understanding of why this behavior is harmful. If he’s unwilling to change his ways, how can we expect him to support policies that genuinely benefit women? To him, we are merely objects—a distraction to deal with when necessary.

In the grand scheme of things, did this conversation harm anyone? Not really. Those who were concerned about the implications were likely already opposed to him. The supporters who remain clearly don’t view it as a significant issue.

And let’s not forget, there’s a pressing matter regarding an alleged child abuse case that’s soon to resurface. A thirteen-year-old. It’s hard to tell what’s more nauseating: Trump’s behavior or the unwavering support from some of his followers. We can’t remain oblivious to the patterns of conduct being displayed.

When it comes to those in power, we must scrutinize their actions. Trump continues to reveal the depths of his character, and there’s no reason to believe he will change. He has consistently shown a lack of respect for boundaries, and without consequences, this behavior will persist.

Ultimately, Trump has nothing to offer this nation in terms of improvement; he can only drag us down with him.
