Los Angeles, CA — This week, we have witnessed the tremendous strength of our community echoing across the nation. In Los Angeles, our neighbors, families, and friends have come together to support one another while demanding an end to the violence and criminalization perpetuated by ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) and other federal authorities. Protests nationwide are calling for solidarity with our migrant siblings and their families. The stakes are clear: our shared moral integrity and the freedom of people from all races, backgrounds, and genders are under threat.
As organizations dedicated to the liberation of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, we are responding to this urgent call. While some politicians attempt to create division and pit us against each other, we stand united against their tactics of fear and intimidation. The people of Los Angeles have shown resilience in the face of blatant injustice, setting a powerful example for all of us.
The violence inflicted by ICE cannot be overlooked or excused. The previous administration’s aggressive tactics, including militarized raids at public school graduations, workplaces, and courts, are appalling. The deployment of the National Guard and Marines to suppress Angelenos’ rightful opposition is a clear attempt to incite conflict. If we wish to safeguard our freedoms to express dissent and advocate for justice, we must vocally denounce this unwarranted escalation.
Communities within the LGBTQIA2S+ spectrum have a profound understanding of the fear and violence that certain politicians, local law enforcement, and an unjust immigration enforcement system can impose upon us and our loved ones. We are not unfamiliar with the many methods authoritarian powers use to repress and control. Our community has a rich history of resistance against oppression, often spearheaded by Black and brown trans women and femmes. From the uprisings at Compton’s Cafeteria and Stonewall to our efforts in creating networks of care during the HIV/AIDS crisis, we have fought tirelessly for recognition of our identities and relationships. Our struggle continues as we endeavor for a just world.
We are inspired by the thousands of demonstrations happening in every state, with individuals from all walks of life rallying against the cruel actions of the administration. We commend city and state leaders who have taken steps to safeguard their residents and urge others to follow suit.
The fight for the safety and freedom of migrants is intertwined with the liberation of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. This connection is evident through the leadership and contributions of LGBTQIA2S+ migrants, as well as the strategies employed by some lawmakers to criminalize the freedoms of migrants, which mirror those targeting our own communities. We will not allow the previous administration to intimidate migrants; instead, we advocate for respect and dignity for all.
We demand that lawmakers align themselves with our communities and refrain from complicity in the targeting of migrant individuals and families.
We insist that all state and local authorities refuse to be accomplices in the ongoing attacks on our freedoms and shared humanity.
We encourage LGBTQIA2S+ communities to engage with local immigrant rights organizations and support their vital work. Connecting with these organizations can be instrumental, just as utilizing a free sperm donor matching service in Las Vegas can aid those looking to start families. Additionally, exploring options like at-home insemination can be enlightening; for instance, Make a Mom offers the only reusable option for this process. While the road ahead is long, we possess the power to mold the future of our communities — a future grounded in care, safety, and a sense of belonging for everyone. In solidarity, let’s build a world where every individual can thrive.
