9 Reasons I Already Miss Michelle Obama
Love her or hate her, the Obama family has vacated the White House, which means Michelle is no longer our first lady. Even though it hasn’t been long, I’m already missing her presence. She embodies the best parts of ourselves: a devoted mother, a supportive partner, a woman of strong principles, and a bold, intelligent individual who isn’t shy about showing her playful side. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to join her on the dance floor?
The role of first lady is somewhat ambiguous, with no electoral obligations, allowing for a certain freedom. Michelle could have easily faded into the background while Barack took center stage, but that’s just not her style. Instead, she made her voice heard on significant issues of our time, never downplaying her intellect, and proved her pop culture savvy through both cheeky and charming media appearances. Remember that time she and James Corden sang “All the Single Ladies” on Carpool Karaoke? Classic!
Here are a few reasons why I already miss having Michelle as our first lady:
- A Totally Relatable Mom
When the Obamas first stepped into the White House, Michelle made her daughters a priority, ensuring they navigated their childhood with grace. She kept them out of unnecessary scrutiny and helped them transition into the public eye smoothly. When Time magazine named Sasha and Malia among the most influential teens of 2014, Michelle shot back, “They’re not influential. They just live here.” That’s pretty much what I’d say about my kids too. - A Dazzling Public Speaker
Michelle Obama knows how to make a statement. I’ll never forget when she said, “When they go low, we go high,” or how she introduced Barack at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Whether addressing millions or a small group of teenage girls, she inspired me to think about how I could contribute to a better world. - Those Toned Arms
Remember when Michelle showed off her arms in her first official photo as first lady? She faced some backlash for it, but let’s be real: that was just an attempt to impose outdated decorum on a modern woman. Instead of caving to criticism, her strong arms motivated countless women to embrace their strength, inside and out. - She Has an Edge
From her iconic side-eye to her playful jabs at Barack, Michelle knows how to shut down nonsense gracefully. When she disagrees, she makes it crystal clear. Sharp, hilarious, and always in control, she exudes confidence, no matter how many aides surround her. - Her Authenticity
Michelle has always been unapologetically herself, demonstrating her values and opinions without hesitation. She’s never shied away from discussing the complexities of being a black woman in America or the privileges she’s experienced. - A Wicked Sense of Humor
It was refreshing to have a first lady who embraced fun, cracked jokes, and didn’t take herself too seriously! Whether she was schooling Ellen in a push-up contest or showing off her “Evolution of Mom Dancing” moves on The Tonight Show, Michelle brought joy to her initiatives. I’m convinced she and her girls had dance parties in the White House kitchen. FLOTUS, just like us! - Her Partnership with Barack
Some of the most heartwarming photos of the former first couple capture those intimate moments where they share a knowing glance or a gentle forehead touch, reflecting their deep respect and love for one another. Their partnership serves as a model for all of us. - Dedication to Important Issues
Michelle’s commitment to military families, healthy eating, fitness, and girls’ education is truly inspiring. She’s been seen digging in the White House garden, challenging the Miami Heat to support her Let’s Move! initiative, and encouraging girls to pursue their education with the wisdom that “There is no boy cute enough or interesting enough to stop you from getting your education.” Truth. - Her Sense of Style
Whether welcoming dignitaries or hula-hooping, Michelle’s fashion choices always impressed. From her everyday J.Crew outfits to stunning couture gowns, she always looked fabulous while embracing comfort. I feel you, FLOTUS. #yogapants
With Michelle Obama no longer in the White House, her absence is deeply felt. I will always remember her unique blend of strength, grace, dignity, and humor that made her and Barack such relatable leaders. Though she may have stepped away from the spotlight, Michelle will forever hold a place in our hearts. I have a feeling she’ll be there for us when we need her most. Thank you, Michelle, for being your authentic self and inspiring us to do the same.
