Fit Mom Rocks CrossFit Studio for Epic Maternity Shoot
When you think of maternity photography, you might envision a serene pregnant woman in a flowing gown, perfectly styled with a gentle glow, cradling her baby bump. While that’s a lovely image, one mom is here to shake things up with a maternity shoot that’s anything but ordinary.
Meet Jenna Rivers, a 29-year-old mom from Connecticut, who took her maternity photos at the CrossFit gym where she and her husband train. With weight bars, medicine balls, and that beautiful bump on display, the photos are both breathtaking and empowering.
At 35 weeks pregnant, Jenna maintains her fitness routine, hitting the gym four to five times a week. “CrossFit keeps me energized and active,” she explains. “Exercises like deep squats are not just great for fitness; they also prepare my body for labor and strengthen pelvic muscles. Plus, we do a ton of squats at CrossFit!”
Her husband and two-year-old son, Leo, joined in on the fun, with Jenna sharing that Leo often tags along to the gym. “He comes with me a couple of times a week and absolutely loves being there. It’s turned into a family affair!”
While Jenna is dedicated to her workouts, she acknowledges the limitations that can come with pregnancy. “My focus is on listening to my body and doing what feels right. I’m not pushing for personal records or lifting anything too heavy; it’s all about maintaining my fitness,” she adds.
Jenna was active during her first pregnancy as well, and she believes it contributed to a positive birthing experience. CrossFit is an integral part of her life, making the gym a fitting backdrop for her maternity shoot. She teamed up with photographer Mia Collins, who aimed to capture Jenna’s vibrant personality and lifestyle. “I wanted to showcase the beauty of pregnancy and how beneficial staying fit can be—not just for health, but for managing stress, shorter labor times, and quicker recoveries,” Mia shared.
Jenna admits there are days when motivation wanes, but she knows that hitting the gym lifts her spirits. “There are times I just want to flop on the couch. But once I’m at the gym, I always feel better after a solid workout!”
While my own pregnancy experiences were more about balancing a bucket of fried chicken on my belly and binge-watching reality TV, I can’t help but admire Jenna’s commitment to fitness. Everyone has their unique ways of feeling great, and it’s important to embrace those differences.
“I tell other moms that if they’re cleared by their doctor, exercising is fantastic for both their health and their baby’s,” she advises. “Even a simple walk can work wonders!”
No matter how moms choose to navigate pregnancy—whether it’s through couch cuddles or gym workouts—each journey deserves celebration. And Jenna’s stunning photo shoot is a reminder of that. “You’re growing a human, so why not stay in shape while doing it?” she quips, and we can’t help but salute her and all moms for their diverse strengths!
