Speak Up, Ivanka. We Can’t Hear Your Nonsense from the Back
Ivanka Trump attempts to convince us that her silence is not really silence. During her first televised interview since she took on an official role in the White House, it became evident that she’s growing tired of defending herself against her critics. In a recent CBS News interview with Kelly Parker, Ivanka was pressed on her critics, particularly those frustrated by her lack of vocal stance on various issues.
“I would say not to conflate lack of public denouncement with silence,” Ivanka stated.
So, her silence isn’t silence — she simply chooses not to publicly advocate for anything. Understood.
Parker then asked, “You have critics who say, ‘Why isn’t Ivanka speaking out? Where does she stand on women’s rights? What about climate change? What’s her stance on Planned Parenthood?’ You’re being held accountable for not speaking out. How do you respond?”
Indeed, where do you stand on these crucial matters, Ivanka? How can you hold a political role without clarifying your political views?
“I believe there are many ways to express your voice,” Ivanka explained. “Sometimes it’s through protests and addressing issues publicly. Other times, it’s done more quietly and directly. So where I disagree with my father, he’s aware.”
So, does your quiet voice tell him that rolling back workplace protections for women is a terrible idea? Are you aware that companies working with the federal government are no longer required to prove they pay men and women equally for the same work? How do you feel about that? And if your father knows, why can’t the rest of us?
What about the rollback of protections against forced arbitration in sexual harassment cases? Does it feel good to know that your father just weakened protections for victims of workplace harassment? How do you feel about the executive order he signed just days before Equal Pay Day, which highlights wage disparities between genders? Did you find the timing ironic, or were you as upset as the rest of us?
When asked about her position on these issues, she once again dodged Parker’s questions. “I think this isn’t about promoting my viewpoints,” she asserted, adding that she didn’t believe constantly articulating her disagreements would make her a more effective advocate.
Well, the current executive order suggests you’re not exactly an “effective advocate” anyway.
When Parker pressed her on whether she felt “complicit” in the White House’s policies, Ivanka replied she was complicit in “wanting to be a force for good and to make a positive impact.”
Perhaps your silence is a reflection of who you really are; your father’s daughter. Maybe you don’t have a genuine interest in empowering women in the workplace, as you’ve never had to fight for professional respect — your family name bought you that. Just a thought.
Silence is complicity, Ivanka — whether you accept it or not. You resemble a character from a Disney movie, parading around while cloaked in the struggles of working women, hoping your “working mom” image remains intact after all this turmoil. Trust me, it won’t.
If your father’s tendency to bully people into silence extends to his family, then it’s time to speak up. What matters more to you — your West Wing office or your integrity? Have you never read a parenting blog? You can’t have it all.
