Starbucks is launching a coffee lover’s wonderland in Chicago!

Imagine if your neighborhood Starbucks transformed into a sprawling four-story labyrinth with soaring ceilings and more caffeine than any human could possibly handle. Who needs a simple front door and a quick route to the register when you can wander through a massive 43,000 square feet of coffee paradise?

Three decades ago, Starbucks made its first mark outside Seattle in Chicago. “It was crucial for us because if Chicago hadn’t thrived, I’m not sure we would have been able to create the global brand we have today,” said Starbucks Executive Chairman Alex Parker to the Chicago Tribune. And thrive it did! As a gesture of gratitude, they’re now constructing a colossal 43,000 square foot coffee haven in the historic Crate and Barrel Building on the Magnificent Mile.

Dubbed a “Reserve Roastery,” this isn’t your typical coffee shop. Here, customers will witness the roasting, brewing, and packaging of rare small reserve coffee batches. Trust me, you’ll need some java for that, because let’s be real: who wants to be bored? Just kidding! Well, sort of.

“It’s not just a coffee shop; it’s about the experience—the drama, the romance, and the thrill of it all,” Parker explained. According to the Tribune, Parker first imagined these Roastery locations back in 2009 when he envisioned creating “the Willy Wonka of coffee.”

Now, we all remember what happened in Willy Wonka’s factory—the owner was a bit eccentric, and his creations could lead to some sticky situations! But I doubt the Roastery will have any chocolate rivers or blueberry incidents. Maybe.

This coffee theme park marks the third Roastery in the U.S.; the first opened in Seattle, and a second is set to debut in NYC in 2018. But none of those locations can compete with the sheer size of the Magnificent Mile’s new gem.

At my local Starbucks, folks can barely muster the energy to step out of their cars. I can only imagine the scene as people joyfully navigate four stories of coffee delight! This place is bound to be a hit because, come on—who wouldn’t want to explore a coffee wonderland?

We’re feeling both excited and a tad anxious about this! It looks like Dr. Evil’s lair but with a charming rooftop patio. More Roastery locations are planned for Shanghai this year and in Milan and Tokyo in 2018—because one coffee to rule them all!
