It’s 2017: Can We Move Past the ‘Clueless Dad’ Stereotype?
In today’s world, while we see advancements in many areas, some outdated stereotypes still linger, as highlighted by a frustrated father who recently shared his annoyance over a ridiculous baby onesie on social media.
This dad posted a picture of a onesie that featured an offensive slogan: “This shirt is daddy-proof,” complete with labels indicating where the neck and arms go, as well as a reminder to fasten the snaps. Seriously? In an era where it’s widely recognized that fathers are just as competent as mothers, why is this merchandise even being produced? This kind of messaging not only disrespects engaged fathers but also perpetuates the absurd notion that men can disengage from parenting duties simply because of their gender. It’s simply absurd.
Many users on the platform chimed in, mocking the ridiculous implication that fathers lack the intelligence to dress their own children. One top comment read, “Durr hurr, fathers are stupid!” encapsulating the humorous yet troubling attitude that some retailers still find amusing enough to market.
