Recently, a friend shared a surprising photo on her social media—a public baby feeding station at Target. Just when you thought you couldn’t adore this retail giant more!
This designated area features two cozy chairs, a small table, and a complimentary supply of breast pads for moms. It even includes a Boppy and a breastfeeding cover for those who want them. Best of all, it’s located in an open area, not tucked away in a private room.
“How innovative! The Target in Glenview has this feeding station for mothers, complete with a basket of free breast pads,” she wrote alongside the photo.
The Facebook group Nursing Moms Unite shared a similar post last week from the same location. Many women chimed in, sharing their experiences with their local Targets offering similar amenities. One woman from Fresno, California mentioned, “My Target has one of these! The last time I used it, a staff member brought me snacks and a bottle of water.” Snacks and water? Who is this magical employee?
Another commenter noted the thoughtful wording of the sign: “It says ‘feeding station,’ not just ‘nursing station.’ Kudos to Target!”
For new parents, navigating outings with an infant can be overwhelming. Knowing that a comfortable space is available to pause, relax, and tend to a fussy baby is incredibly reassuring—especially for new moms who might feel uncertain about breastfeeding in public. It’s a fantastic service for customers.
We reached out to Target, and a representative confirmed that while there are no immediate plans to introduce this feature nationwide, they are testing nursing rooms in select stores to gather feedback from customers.
“This space is not something that is rolling out to other Target stores,” stated Sarah Mitchell, a Target representative. “In late 2022, we began testing designated nursing rooms at two stores in Wisconsin. We will continue to assess guest feedback on this initiative to explore broader implementation and always welcome input on how we can better serve our customers.”
“Fitting rooms are available for women who wish to breastfeed privately, even with others waiting to use them,” Mitchell added. “Guests are encouraged to breastfeed in public areas of the store without feeling awkward. Store leaders have the authority to make decisions that cater to the needs of their guests, as our team did in the Glenview store.”
So be sure to let your local store managers know—these public spaces are a wonderful addition!
