Kelly Grant is proud of her identity, thank you very much. As a prominent figure, she’s an incredible vocalist, a relatable mom, and someone who feels like a close friend.
Despite gaining weight after her second pregnancy, which is honestly not the most captivating aspect of her amazing persona, the topic of her body often sneaks into interviews. This happened again at a recent event in New York City, where Redbook captured her thoughts on the matter.
Handling Body Criticism
When asked how she handles body criticism, Grant responded, “As a mother, an aunt, a sister, and a daughter, I find it crucial to be open about my weight.” She acknowledged, “This isn’t my ideal weight, but I’ve had two kids. For three years, I felt fantastic and had no desire to lose weight since I planned on having another child. There are many physical challenges I face.”
Many can relate to this struggle. It’s striking how weight discussions change; when someone is thin, there’s praise, but if a person doesn’t quickly ‘bounce back’ after having a baby or embraces their new shape, the backlash can be severe.
Embracing Reality
Grant further emphasized, “It’s vital to inform girls that Photoshop doesn’t represent reality. This [her body] is real and what I’m embracing right now. I’m going to do my thing at my own pace, and whether I’m slim one day or not, it won’t affect my talent. I still sound amazing, and that’s why I’m here.”
As we navigate life, our identities are shaped by various factors, yet so much judgment is based on appearances. Grant is open about her journey because she recognizes that her honesty, resilience, and happiness can inspire others.
Confidence and Gratitude
“I appreciate that people frequently bring this up because it allows me to say, ‘I don’t care what you think.’ Just be you. I’ve always been confident; when someone tells me not to do something, I’m inclined to say, ‘watch me.’ I think the universe knows that about me.”
“I’m living my happiest life, and I sometimes can’t believe my luck. I focus on being grateful.”
