Moms, Don’t Forget to Pamper Yourself This Mother’s Day

Hey there, supermom! I see you in those comfy yoga pants and your signature messy bun. The only makeup you’ve managed to throw on is just enough to hide the dark circles from those sleepless nights. It’s been ages since your last trip to the salon, and while your kids’ outfits are pristine, yours are probably older than they are. Your day is filled with tidying up after your little ones, only for them to create even more chaos before you can catch your breath.

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I have a bold idea for you this year: Treat yourself!

I get it. It feels strange to think about yourself when you’re so busy caring for everyone else. Your children are dressed to the nines while you’re in the same outfit you wore last week (or is it two weeks?). Your big outing is likely a trip to Costco, and your only moments of peace are when you sneak away to scroll through your social media in the bathroom.

As a mom, you’d go to the ends of the earth for your family. You’ve endured the pains of childbirth, kissed away countless boo-boos, packed countless lunches, and even sat through seasons of shows you can’t stand—like that little brat Caillou. You’ve played the part of Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny, all while feeling utterly exhausted.

You do it all for love, and you cherish those slobbery kisses. You believe that these chaotic days spent caring for your family are some of the best of your life. Yet, you often forget to take a moment for yourself, even as you go days without a proper shower because you’re too busy marveling at your toddler’s growing vocabulary.

You’re lucky to have that love, and your kids are incredibly fortunate to have you. They call out “Mommy!” more times in a day than you can count because you’re so darn good at what you do. You might not fit neatly into any category of motherhood—be it soccer mom, crunchy mom, or cool mom—but you’re a unique and beautiful kind of mom. You’re doing an amazing job at this thing called motherhood.

Celebrate Yourself This Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is your special day, a time to celebrate just how wonderful you truly are. No card or macaroni necklace can adequately express your worth, so the least you can do is take a day to appreciate yourself and do whatever brings you joy.

Whatever that means to you, make it happen. Buy yourself something nice. Take a solo trip to Target. Lock the door and binge-watch those guilty-pleasure reality shows. Treat yourself to a fancy latte with all the trimmings. Sleep in, meet a friend for brunch and mimosas, book that massage you’ve been putting off, or simply enjoy a nap. Let your partner handle diaper duty for the day. Order dessert just because. Get a pedicure, watch a movie of your choice, or read a book that doesn’t have pictures.

You’re excelling at one of the toughest jobs around, and you deserve to take time for yourself. You deserve to take a day to love the incredible mother you are.

So this Mother’s Day, please remember to treat yourself. Happy Mother’s Day!
