Frustrating Tasks We’ve Bid Farewell To, Thanks to Technology

Let’s face it: managing screen time for our kids can be a bit of a juggling act, and sometimes we find ourselves caught up in it too. However, when it comes to the myriad ways technology simplifies our daily routines, I can’t help but feel a sense of gratitude. Here are a few tedious tasks that have been made easier thanks to modern advancements:

  1. Text Messaging
I can’t imagine how families with several kids used to navigate through crowded amusement parks without cell phones and messaging. And let’s not forget about babysitters — I really don’t want to play phone tag just to confirm their arrival time. Plus, most teenage babysitters prefer texting over chatting. Group texts might annoy some, but I’d rather not call every friend to see if they’re up for a spontaneous happy hour — I’d much prefer to spend that time enjoying a glass of wine!
  2. Online Bill Payment
No more dealing with stamps, envelopes, and checks! I love receiving an email notification that my bill has been taken care of. Now, if only there was a way for my computer to auto-fill my kids’ endless registration forms too!
  3. Library Holds and Renewals
Isn’t it fantastic how I can request books online, and my library sends me an email when they’re ready for pickup? With my family usually having about 50 books checked out, I’m grateful for email reminders about due dates and the ability to renew online. Gone are the days of lugging heavy stacks of books back to the library! Some libraries even have drive-up windows — genius!
  4. Drive-Thru Pharmacies
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the convenience of drive-thrus. After taking a sick child to the doctor for a strep throat diagnosis, we can now skip the wait at the pharmacy. The doctor calls in the prescription, and we simply pick it up from our car. Can we get drive-thru grocery stores next for those quick milk and bread runs without the hassle of dragging along tired kids?
  5. ATMs
I managed to find a bank that allows my children to have traditional passbook accounts, just like we had growing up. However, the long lines and paperwork can be tedious. Thankfully, I can now rely on ATMs — especially the drive-thru ones!
  6. GPS Navigation
No more struggling with crumpled paper maps or trying to decipher printouts from MapQuest. GPS has made getting around so much easier! Sure, there are still times when I lose signal in the mountains, so maybe I should learn how to read a map just in case.
  7. Amazon Shopping
I have to admit, I love Amazon. While I support local businesses, sometimes life gets in the way, and I can’t make it out to shop. Amazon Prime is my go-to for everything from birthday gifts to household supplies. It’s a lifesaver!

So, what do I do with all the time I’ve saved? Engaging in fulfilling activities, of course, with perhaps a bit of scrolling through social media!
