Television in the ’80s and ’90s was nothing short of spectacular. It’s no surprise that I often found myself glued to the screen, indulging in a bowl of coffee ice cream while the outside world faded away for those precious 30-minute episodes. The writers of these iconic shows clearly knew what they were doing. However, if we were in charge, the themes would be much more relatable and realistic, reflecting life as we know it today.
Perfect Strangers
Your tween’s pals, who seemed to be just kids a few months back, have suddenly sprouted taller and curvier—and yes, they’re even shaving. Who are these new people invading your home?
The Wonder Years
How on earth do you manage to ensure your child eats a nutritious breakfast, remembers to write that check for the school trip, and refrain from signing up for every volunteer opportunity? It’s a mystery.
Who’s the Boss?
Suddenly, you find your authority has vanished. Your child’s favorite line has shifted from “Mommy, play with me!” to “You’re not the boss of me!” What happened to those blissful days when your word was law? Those times truly were dyn-o-mite!
Saved by the Bell
Just as the doorbell rings, your child asks when they can start dating. Timing, right?
Family Matters
Who left the toilet seat up? Who didn’t change the roll of paper towels? Who devoured the last cupcake? These pressing household issues are crucial to discuss, yet they often remain unresolved.
Friends
Family outings, like picnics or museum trips, used to be your child’s favorite activities. Now, it’s all about hanging out with their buddies. Sorry, Mom!
Designing Women
Assisting your tween in curating a wardrobe that might include zebra stripes but absolutely no mixing with leopard spots. Even 11-year-olds need boundaries!
A Different World
This explains the new math rules. Whatever happened to carrying the one? Long division seems like a relic of the past.
Wiseguy
Eye rolls and a new vocabulary filled with “whatever” have become your child’s preferred method of communication—if they ever decide to step out of their room.
Growing Pains
It’s your growing pains, not theirs. You haven’t exercised in ages, and those jeans are tighter than ever. Thankfully, you still have some flowing tunic tops from the ’80s to hide the evidence.
Empty Nest
That day will arrive when your once-little one spreads their wings and leaves home. Sure, you will no longer be dodging questions about zebra-striped pants, but you’ll also be bidding farewell to a significant part of your life. Take heart; it won’t be long before they return to do their laundry, and your home will be bustling once again.

In summary, our favorite ’80s and ’90s TV shows provided us with laughs and lessons, mirrored through the lens of parenting today. While the titles may spark nostalgia, the realities of modern life add a humorous twist to these classic themes.
