Transforming Your Blog into a Book

When I launched my blog, “Home Insemination Kit,” my goal was to craft a sort of digital baby book for my children. I’ve never been the mom who keeps track of milestones like first words or steps, and let’s just say my memory isn’t the most reliable. I often struggle to print out photos, and while I enjoy crafting, I’ve never gotten into scrapbooking. Blogging, however, felt like a delightful way to document our family’s journey, encompassing the joyful, challenging, and everything in between moments—and it truly has been.

As 2008 came to a close, I dove into the project of converting my blog from that year into a book. It was quite the undertaking, especially since the platform I chose (blurb.com) didn’t seamlessly integrate with Blogger at that time. I had to painstakingly upload every image and post one by one, which took forever! Nevertheless, for just $50, I ended up with a hardcover copy of my blog. I got creative with the design, making some pages text-only, others filled with pictures, and most a blend of both. You can utilize any fonts installed on your computer, allowing for complete customization.

While I can’t give the service a glowing endorsement—there was no way to reach a real person for assistance, my first book had a binding issue that required a replacement, and the system crashed more often than I’d like—I ultimately found the experience rewarding. Plus, it reinvigorated my desire to keep writing in 2009.
