Essential Life Skills Every Parent Should Teach Their Childrenself insemination kit

Throughout my journey as a parent, I’ve focused on preparing my kids to thrive in the world around them. We’ve instilled the importance of manners, teaching them to say “please” and “thank you,” as well as how to wash their hands after using the restroom. We’ve also had a few laughs about making sure they avoid asking someone with a big belly if they’re expecting a baby.

Reflecting on my own childhood missteps, such as getting playfully punched for asking about a “Hertz Donut” or being gullible enough to participate in a Snipe Hunt, I realized it might be wise to create a list of essential life skills to pass on to my children:

  1. If someone invites you to pull their finger, just don’t.
  2. If you don’t get the joke, a simple nod and smile will do.
  3. Avoid collecting things unless you want to deal with a lifetime of ugly ceramic turtles.
  4. Believe you can achieve anything; this mindset is particularly useful in parking lots.
  5. Steer clear of group texts. And if you must, don’t include me, please.
  6. READ EVERYTHING.
  7. Develop a taste for some veggies; your future self will appreciate it.
  8. Don’t trust anyone at a bar where peanut shells litter the floor.
  9. Ensure you’ve hung up before you start talking about the person on the other end.
  10. And seriously, avoid speaking ill of others.
  11. If you’re unsure about performing a Farmer’s Blow, better not attempt it.
  12. Self-deprecation often wins over narcissism.
  13. Distance yourself from unpredictable individuals; if you find yourself discussing their eccentricities often, they’re probably not your cup of tea.
  14. If you can’t be sure it’s air, just hold it in.
  15. Home bikini waxing is a definite no-go.
  16. If you don’t want something shared, keep it off paper.
  17. Craft a mental happy place instead of a space that critiques your physique.
  18. If you discover chocolate smeared in the bathroom, resist the urge to taste it.
  19. Please refrain from posting pictures of your meals or your feet.
  20. And if you find yourself at a dubious gathering, be cautious with the brownies.
